Politico-environmental education:

Since its foundation in 1997, IPÊTERRAS has sought to disseminate alternative agricultural practices based on Permaculture and living in harmony with the semi-arid climate. The Institute also aims to raise societal awareness of the importance of valorising and preserving the local ecosystem (Caatinga).

Public: IPÊTERRAS primarily works with children and adolescents from local schools (public and private), farmers associations and students from regional universities.

Activities: At the Institute's Ecological Farm educational activities and ecological hikes are organised for schools and associations. The farm is a sort of laboratory and school rolled into one. The Institute's staff also regularly visit and give talks at associations and community groups, schools and universities.
